Every veterinarian has faced the difficult moment when a pet needs urgent care but a family cannot afford treatment. The REACH Program—Reaching Every Animal with Charitable Healthcare—helps veterinarians bridge that gap.
REACH allows AVMA member veterinarians to apply for charitable care grants when clients are facing financial hardship. In 2025 alone, more than $1 million in REACH funds helped over 1,300 animals nationwide receive the treatment they needed.
Participating veterinarians can access up to $1,000 per calendar year in assistance (up to $5,000 per clinic address). Because REACH does not require clinics to fundraise, it supports practices in every type of community—including rural or economically challenged areas where raising charitable funds locally can be difficult.
The process is simple: provide the necessary treatment first, then submit the grant application for reimbursement. REACH guidelines cover a wide range of medical and surgical care (everything except preventive care), giving veterinary teams flexibility to act when pets need help most.
The impact is already being felt in practices across the country. As one veterinarian shared:
“I am so very grateful for the REACH program. With its help, we were able to provide lifesaving blood transfusions for a dog experiencing an IMHA crisis. Today she is in remission and back home with her grateful family.”
Dr. Allison Herron, Ruth Helen Wolf Animal Hospital
REACH is supported by generous partners and donors who believe financial hardship should never stand between a pet and lifesaving care—empowering veterinarians to do what they do best: help animals and the people who love them.
