Learn About Us

The Alaska State Veterinary Medical Association is a non-profit organization dedicated exclusively to the profession of veterinary medicine and the interests of veterinarians, their clients and patients. Organized and officially recognized as a state association in 1995, we have been the only statewide membership organization for veterinarians and we are here to help you at every state of your career, from veterinary student to retirement. We are comprised of veterinarians that represent the broad spectrum of veterinary medicine. We are committed to helping protect the health, safety, and welfare of Alaskans, advocating for veterinarians to provide safe, competent and professional veterinary services to consumers by supporting scientifically based regulations that support these goals.

How We Can Help

Advocacy

Our legislative team is continuosly at work to have a pulse on public policy and regulations that affect the veterinary profession. AKVMA also collaborates with the AVMA legislative team on veterinary issues at the Federal level.

Premium CE

Every fall AKVMA hosts a professional symposium that offers high quality CE for veterinarians and veterinary technicians and support staff. AKVMA members receive discounted symposium fees.

Leadership Opportunities

AKVMA is governed by a board of directors and provides opportunities for leadership activities within the association. AKVMA along with AVMA sponsors a rising leader to attend the AVMA Leadership Conference each January.

A Voice in the AVMA

The AKVMA has a delegate and alternate delegate in the AVMA House of Delegates which provides a voice at the table on important resolutions affecting the veterinary profession. Members have access to our delegates as their representatives and presentation of important veterinary concerns.
